What kind of Internet of Things do the weighing industry need? ——Reflections from the 2017 China Internet of Things Conference

  • 2018-05-02

Recently, on behalf of Ruima Electric, the author participated in the 2017 China IoT Conference held in Fuzhou. He had the privilege of listening to dozens of wonderful speeches by senior executives, experts, scholars and professors of the Internet-related industries. Below, the author will summarize some of the new information related to this conference and the weighing industry, as well as the author's thinking, for your peer reference.

1The scale of the Internet of Things industry

Zhu wan, deputy director of the Information Technology and Software Services Division of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that China's Internet of Things industry system is taking shape and the scale of the Internet of Things industry has jumped from 1.7 billion yuan in 2009 to more than 930 billion yuan in 2016. Zhu Wan said that China has formed a relatively complete industrial chain in terms of chips, sensors, terminal equipment, application software, system integration, and communications networks, and deployed more than 100 million M2M terminals based on the world's largest mobile communications network.

According to the theme report of the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Wu he quan , in the major areas of global industrial IIT industry spending in 2016, manufacturing accounted for 178 billion U.S. dollars (including manufacturing operations, 102.5 billion U.S. dollars, production asset management and maintenance, on-site service), and transportation accounted for 78 billion U.S. dollars (including 55.9 billion U.S. dollars in supply chain monitoring, transportation tracking), utilities accounted for 69 billion U.S. dollars (communications system, IT security, smart grid 57.8 billion U.S. dollars, healthcare, smart cities), and others (aerospace, energy) Mining, agriculture).

It can be seen from this that the Internet of Things is a trillion-scale industry, of which the most important benefit and profit belongs to the manufacturing industry, and the weighing industry is among them.

the promotion of NB-IoT technology

The Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is based on a cellular network and only consumes about 180KHz of bandwidth. It can be deployed directly on GSM networks, UMTS networks, or LTE networks to reduce deployment costs and achieve smooth upgrades. . To this end, the industry chain began researching a few years ago using narrowband LTE technology to carry IoT connections. After several changes in name and technology evolution, in September 2015, 3GPP formally named this technology as NB-IoT. At MWC2016, the NB-IoT made its debut, and it attracted the attention of the industry. Operators and equipment vendors have been sponsoring and endorsing their platforms.

On June 16, 2016, the 72nd meeting of the 3GPP RAN Plenum in Busan, South Korea, was successfully completed. NB-IoT is an important issue for 3GPP R13. The relevant contents of the 3GPP protocol have been approved by the RAN Plenary and formally announced that this NB-IoT standard core protocol widely supported by the wireless industry has finally been completed after more than two years of research. This means that NB-IoT is about to enter the commercial stage.

It is worth mentioning that Chinese operators are actively investing in NB-IoT testing, participating in standard setting, and so on, so that China has played a leading role in the development of NB-IoT. As the operator with the highest market share of China's Internet of Things, China Mobile has put forward a strategy of “connecting 5 billion Internet of Things and a revenue of RMB 100 billion by 2020” in the strategy of the Internet of Things. In order to achieve this goal, China Mobile has built core capabilities in the “cloud management end” around the Internet of Things, actively developed new technologies such as NB-IoT and eMTC, and tested and deployed trial network applications. To build a cross-industry integrated ecosystem, China Mobile has set up a 5G joint innovation center and a 5G joint innovation center to set up an open laboratory. With the maturation of NB-IoT and eMTC, new technologies, new solutions and new products related to NB-IoT and eMTC will also be showcased to industry customers in China Mobile Open Labs.

China Telecom is also actively following up on the development of NB-IoT technology. It has formally established research and development for key technologies, terminals and services of NB-IoT, and proposed two deployment ideas for NB-IoT. The first is the Internet of Things-oriented architecture based on virtualized architecture. The overall solution, under the requirements of a large number of connections, small data packets, power saving, NB-IoT and LTE traffic model and function differences, the core network tends to be deployed independently; the second is based on full coverage 800MHz LTE network deployment NB-IoT The base station supports both LTE and NB-IoT (where NB-IoT and 800MHz LTE base stations share baseband, RF, and antenna resources).

China Unicom has also started trials and trials of NB-IoT business since 2015, and plans to promote the deployment of large-scale applications and trials of new LTE-eMTC technologies in 2017. For key issues such as NB-IoT's business-bearing strategy and core network deployment, China Unicom stated that it will scale pilot projects by the end of 2016 to accelerate the development of the NB-IoT industry. It is understood that from February 2015 to the first half of 2016, China Unicom launched a prototype of the Internet of Things smart meter, built and developed the world's first NB-IoT new technology demonstration site in Shanghai, and continued to promote business in Guangdong and other places. explore. From the second half of 2016 to 2017, China Unicom plans to build 6 pilot sites for NB-IoT, conduct large-scale test verification for N900 & 1800, and gradually scale commercial use.

Before the NB-IoT technology was proposed, the transport layer of the Internet of Things mainly relied on short-distance transmission technologies (such as Zigbee, Bluetooth, UWB) and the transmission distance was within 1km. In the long term, with the establishment of NB-IoT base stations across the country. NB-IoT will replace short-distance transmission technology and become the core technology of the Internet of Things industry.

3database technology

The theme report of Du Guowang, vice president of NTU, mentioned that the Internet of Things necessarily involves the processing of information, and the processing of information necessarily requires a professional database. The following is a brief introduction to database technology.

The data model is a representation of the information model in the data world. Data models can be divided into three categories: hierarchical models, mesh models, and relational models.

A hierarchical model is a data model that describes entities and their relationships using tree structures. In this structure, each record type is represented by a node, and the links between record types are represented by directed line segments between nodes. Each parent node can have multiple child nodes but each child node can only have one parent node. This structure determines that a hierarchical database system that adopts a hierarchical model as a method of organizing data can only handle one-to-many entity relationships.

The mesh model allows a node to have multiple parent nodes and child nodes at the same time. Therefore, compared with the hierarchical model, the mesh structure is more universal and can directly describe the real-world entities. It can also be considered that the hierarchical model is a special case of the mesh model.

The relational model is a data model that uses two-dimensional table structures to express entity types and relationships between entities. Its basic assumption is that all data are represented mathematically.

The size of the database system is divided into large-scale database systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, and DB2. Small and medium-sized database systems include Foxpro, Access, and MySQL.

4Summary

The Internet of Things industry is a scale of trillions of scale. Weighing devices industry's Internet of Things must be integrated with the actual industry. Based on sensor technology, NB-IoT technology is used as a communication module, and database technology is used as an information processing system. We are brave enough to explore, dare to try, and make every effort to break through.

All manufacturers should cultivate and consolidate the weighing instrument brand with scientific and technological innovation and product innovation, and enhance the awareness of quality competition among enterprises. Breaking down regional boundaries, under the premise of complementary advantages, realize the integration of resources among enterprises, market-oriented, scientific and technological innovation as the driving force, product structure adjustment as the breakthrough point, and improving the economic efficiency of enterprises as the center, complete the output to quality The transformation will promote the leapfrog development of China's weighing industry.
